Colombia Modernizes Its Air Force with the Purchase of Two KC-390 Millennium Aircraft
On August 4, 2026, the Colombian Air Force (FAC) signed a USD 366.4 million contract with Embraer for two KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft, Infodefensa reported. The aircraft, which can carry up to 26 tons of payload and cruise at roughly 470 knots, will support troop and cargo transport, humanitarian assistance, airdrop operations, and aerial refueling. Deliveries are scheduled for 2029 and 2030, with both aircraft operating from the Military Air Transport Command in Bogotá. Colombia becomes the first Latin American customer for the KC-390 outside Brazil, and the 13th country to add the aircraft to its fleet — building on more than 35 years of partnership between the FAC and Embraer.
The acquisition reflects the National Government's firm commitment to strengthening the country's security and defense capabilities, as a larger budget effort for the sector is announced. It is welcome news that recognizes and supports the steady work of Colombia's Armed Forces, whose professionalization and modernization are essential to the country's sovereignty and security. New-generation aircraft demand robust maintenance ecosystems, logistics support, and specialized supply chains — precisely where C.I. Aerodinámica Inc. has spent more than 25 years supporting the Colombian Air Force.
